Less Is More: Intimate Destination Weddings Will Thrive In 2021

India Through My Cycle: The Man On A Mission

In a country where ‘Jugaad’ drives everything, where the ‘if you have it, flaunt it’ philosophy flourishes, we were never programmed to be minimal. While certain communities have been practicing minimalism in India for decades, we hardly know about it. The ideas of the ‘Big Fat Indian Wedding’ and extravagant, larger than life North-Indian weddings have dominated our media platforms and pop-culture for years now. When we think of a good wedding, we think of never-ending buffets, a baarat that is never on time, loud music, stealing of the groom’s jutti, thousands of guests, and outfits that will be worn once never to be seen again.

Well, guess what, these kinds of weddings aren’t in vogue anymore. For good.

Trend Forecast

It’s 2020. Sustainability is cool, minimalism is #goals. A low-waste lifestyle and a lesser carbon-footprint is desired. Clothes are mindful purchases with an intention to buy again. Wedding lehengas are now rented, instead of bought. You no longer need to buy luxury cars to fulfill your dream of driving your dream car, since you can now rent it. What is often misconstrued as a deviation from tradition is actually a pragmatic approach that keeps up with the changes in the natural and social ecosystem around us.  Weddings too are a part of these changes. While destination weddings have been around for the past few years, as an occurrence they had only prevailed amongst a certain class. When they came into vogue, any kind of wedding, had to be big. But now, with everything that has happened in 2020, people are more mindful and understand that less is more.

They want weddings to be more intimate but more tasteful. They would rather have 200 people who get to experience boutique hospital, be flown in on a private jet, driven around in luxury cars, and experience delightful meals that may not big buffets but may be carefully curated culinary delights that will linger on. Believe it or not, the idea of small but tasteful weddings is on the rise in and the areas in and around South India seem to be the nexus for the same.

South Side Story

Be it beach favorites like Goa, Gokarna, Pondicherry, Chennai or places like Ooty, Coonoor, Coorg, Chikmagalur to cities like Mangalore, Coimbatore, Kochi, places in the Southern part of India are on the rise as hotspots for destination weddings that are mindfully curated. The rise of boutique hotels and experiential businesses in these parts also corresponds with the rise of the trend. The immense natural and cultural beauty, the diverse culinary opportunities, and the infrastructural facilities make this part of India ideal for a destination wedding that is small on guests but big on experiences.

At Hype, we believe in facilitating experiences that form indelible memories. We believe that the luxury mobility that we are building helps stick to the ideas of minimalism, sustainability while maintaining a pragmatic approach to celebrations. With mobility services over land, air, and water, we know the formula for a destination wedding that will be unforgettable.

Less is truly more. Get ready to experience a new wave of panache, as destination weddings are about to get so much better.
