They are beautiful, professionally photographed, and available to anyone who can provide a credit card with sufficient limit. They are also — by definition — available to anyone who can provide a credit card with sufficient limit.
For the clients Hype Luxury serves, this is not the definition of a private island.
What a Genuine Private Island Experience Requires
A private island, at the level that matches the word private in its fullest sense, is a property that is not available to the public in any configuration.
It is accessible through a relationship — with the owner, with a management company that represents a small number of properties for a small number of clients, or with a platform whose network includes properties that are offered to known clients rather than listed for general availability.
The island itself is typically one of three configurations: a working estate in which the owner is allowing a trusted guest to use the property during their absence; a purpose-built private retreat designed for a single party with full staff provided; or a remote natural island with temporary infrastructure installed for the duration of the charter.
Where the Best Properties Are
The private island landscape is global and non-obvious. The properties that appear in editorial coverage are, by definition, no longer genuinely private.
The most extraordinary private island experiences in 2026 are occurring in the Maldives outer atolls, the Seychelles outer islands, the Andaman Sea, the Caribbean’s lesser-known island chains, the Dalmatian coast of Croatia, and — increasingly — the Scottish Hebrides, where the combination of dramatic landscape and genuine remoteness is attracting principals who have exhausted the equatorial options.
What It Costs
The private island price range is genuinely wide — from €50,000 per week for a modest property with basic staff, to €500,000+ per week for an extraordinary property with full service, helicopter access, and a programme managed at the level of a private resort.
The properties at the top of this range are not found through search. They are accessed through relationships with operators who manage them for owners who care about who uses them.
At Hype Luxury, our private island programme is built on exactly these relationships.
If you are looking for something that does not appear on a listing site, the conversation should start with us.
The Aviation Dimension
Every genuine private island experience begins and ends with an aviation programme.
The island’s remoteness is its value. The aircraft that reaches it — helicopter, seaplane, private jet to the nearest airstrip — is the infrastructure that makes the remoteness accessible rather than merely inconvenient.
We coordinate the full programme: the private jet to the regional airport, the seaplane or helicopter transfer to the island, the return. One briefing. One point of contact. The island at the end of it.
The island that doesn’t appear in search results is the one worth finding.
