One Week, 3,000 Leaders
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2027 takes place in Davos-Klosters from 18 to 22 January. Around 3,000 leaders from business, government and civil society converge on a small Alpine town for five days. For private aviation, it is one of the busiest weeks of the European winter, and the logistics start long before the first session.
The Airport Puzzle
Davos has no airport for business jets. Principals usually choose between:
- Zurich. The main gateway with the widest choice of aircraft, followed by a long road transfer or a helicopter.
- Engadin Airport, Samedan. A high-altitude airport near St Moritz with spectacular access but demanding conditions. Not every aircraft or crew can operate there.
- Other regional airports. Options such as St Gallen-Altenrhein or Friedrichshafen can ease congestion, with longer drives.
During the Forum week, parking for aircraft, handling slots and helicopter capacity all tighten. Some aircraft drop passengers and reposition elsewhere to park.
Why November Matters
Many delegations confirm attendance late in the year, and the best aircraft for the week are committed early. Booking in November gives the widest choice of ultra-long-range jets for intercontinental arrivals, better helicopter slots, and preferred ground transport in Davos itself, where cars and drivers are in short supply.
Building the Davos Itinerary
- Confirm arrival and departure days, with one buffer day for weather.
- Choose the arrival airport based on aircraft size and weather resilience.
- Book the helicopter transfer and a road backup. Alpine weather can ground helicopters.
- Secure winter-equipped cars and experienced mountain chauffeurs for the full week.
- Plan the departure early. The final day sees a rush of simultaneous departures.
Charter Beats Ownership Here
Davos shows why access matters. A principal may fly an ultra-long-range jet from Mumbai or New York to Zurich, then need a helicopter and a 4×4 for the final leg. No single owned asset covers that. A charter partner coordinates all three as one journey.
The Takeaway
Davos is about meetings, but the week succeeds or fails on logistics. Lock aircraft, helicopter and ground transport now, and arrive in January with nothing to think about but the conversations.
